Beloved Owner Of Popular Restaurant In Fairfield County Dies

The owner of a popular restaurant in Fairfield County has died.

Monroe resident Rudolf H. "Rudy" Weiss best known for being the owner of Windmill Restaurant in Stratford for 40 years died Tuesday, April 23 after suffering a long time from Lewy Body Dementia. He was 83.

Weiss' obituary said he was someone who always had a "joke and a smile" and was a complex problem solver. 

In Stratford, Weiss supported Stratford EMS, Muscular Dystrophy and many softball teams, which got him inducted to the CT ASA Softball Hall of Fame as a sponsor.

He graduated from Stratford High, then attended the RCA Institute in New York City and worked in TV repair. He was the owner of Antenna Systems of New England, early in his career, according to the obituary. Weiss served in the U.S. Navy.

Rudy was predeceased by his parents, Rudolf and Wilma of Stratford; and brother-in-Law Anthero "Nick" Nicolau. 

He is survived by his wife Cheryl and son Marco from Monroe; son Rudolf J. Weiss and his wife Janet of Norwalk; daughter Allison Yao from Trumbull; sister Eleanor Nicolau of Wareham, MA.; step-daughter Keisha Quattrucci; step-son Dion Roach, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. 

Friends may call Sunday, April 28 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., in the Redgate - Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull. 

Funeral services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (www.lbda.org).
